The highly anticipated opening of the gastronomic street on Taras Shevchenko Street in Tashkent has been delayed once again. Initially, the project was planned to be completed by Independence Day, then the deadline was moved to mid-September, and later to early October. Now, a new date has been announced — October 10, but even this date is not guaranteed.
The Mirabad District Hokimiyat reported that the first phase of the beautification works for the project is nearly complete. Along the future gastronomic street, 6 photo zones, 39 small and 17 large street lamps have been installed, as well as a bus stop. Additionally, 39 surveillance cameras and facial recognition systems have been set up. For the comfort of visitors, 20 benches and trash bins have been installed, along with Wi-Fi access points.
One of the key updates is the construction of approximately 3,000 square meters of pedestrian walkways, with most of it (2,600 square meters) paved with natural granite stone.
“The completion of the beautification was initially planned for September, but due to the replacement of asphalt with granite, the deadline for the works was shifted to early October,” noted the Hokimiyat.
Currently, work is ongoing to green the area, with around 30 decorative trees being planted. The beautification work is expected to be completed by October 10, after which the second phase of creating the tourist street will begin.
It is important to note that the establishments on the gastronomic street will operate around the clock. Daily, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, this part of the street will be closed to traffic and turned into a pedestrian zone. Vehicle traffic will only resume after the full completion of construction works.
Residents of Tashkent and visitors to the city are eagerly awaiting the opening of this unique street, which promises to become one of the main attractions for tourists and food lovers. However, many remain skeptical that October 10 will be the final opening date.
