After several delays, Tashkent has finally opened its first gastronomic street, located on a section of Taras Shevchenko Street. The project was launched only on the fourth attempt, and even this time with a caveat—only the first phase of the project has been completed, and the second phase is now starting, with no information yet on when it will be finished.
The first phase included the creation of green areas and photo zones along the street, the installation of 39 small and 17 large street lamps, as well as the construction of a bus stop. The street has been equipped with a video surveillance system featuring 39 cameras, including facial recognition technology. Additionally, for the convenience of visitors, 20 benches and trash bins were installed, along with free Wi-Fi systems.
To ensure comfortable pedestrian movement, a walkway covering about 3,000 square meters was constructed, and the main section of the roadway was paved with natural granite.
The second phase of the project promises even more improvements, with plans to expand the green areas, create landscape designs, build terraces, and install modern benches. However, the exact timeline for completing these works has not yet been announced.
The gastronomic street is set to become a round-the-clock attraction for street food lovers and visitors to the capital. For the safety and convenience of pedestrians, the street will be closed to vehicles from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, transforming into a pedestrian zone.
Despite the challenges and delays in its implementation, this project aims to become one of Tashkent’s cultural hubs, combining gastronomic delights with pleasant walks along the well-maintained street.
