The Tax Committee of Uzbekistan has published interesting data on taxi drivers’ earnings. From the beginning of the year until August 15, 171 taxi drivers earned over 100 million sums. About 7,600 drivers also achieved impressive earnings ranging from 50 to 100 million sums. These figures indicate that the taxi market in Uzbekistan has become more transparent, and drivers’ work has become more profitable.

Nexia – The Leader Among Taxi Drivers

Despite the variety of cars, the most popular vehicle among taxi drivers remains the “Nexia.” This is due to its affordability and fuel efficiency, making it an optimal choice for many drivers. The second place is held by “Cobalt,” and the third by “Lacetti.”

From the Shadow Market to Legal Operations

Back in April, only six taxi aggregators were integrated with the tax authorities’ information systems. Today, a few months later, the number of integrated aggregators has reached 142. This integration has been a significant step in the legalization of the taxi market.

From the beginning of the year to August 15, more than 166 million trips were made through these aggregators, with fiscal receipts issued for a total of 3 trillion sums. Compared to data from March 1, when 18.3 million trips were recorded, the ninefold increase shows a significant improvement in transparency in this sector.

Legalization of Self-Employed Drivers

Another important aspect of the changes is the legalization of self-employed drivers. More than half a million citizens, who previously worked illegally, are now officially registered as self-employed in the passenger transportation sector. Of these, over 361,000 provide services through aggregators, which is twice as many compared to the data available in March.

Drivers’ Earnings

The fiscalization of payments has made it possible to obtain detailed information on the income of self-employed drivers. Specifically:

  • 125,600 drivers earned up to 1 million sums
  • 104,000 earned from 1 to 5 million sums
  • 45,300 earned from 5 to 10 million sums
  • 78,000 drivers earned from 10 to 50 million sums
  • 7,600 earned from 50 to 100 million sums
  • 171 drivers earned more than 100 million sums

These data demonstrate that the taxi market in Uzbekistan has made significant progress from a shadow sector to legal and transparent operations. Now drivers can work openly, and the tax authorities can control and regulate this important sector of the economy.

Legalizing the taxi market is not only a step towards transparency but also an opportunity for drivers to secure a stable income, and for the state to increase tax revenues.
